The Advance Programme for IST-Africa 2010 is available online and conference registration is now open. Please note that presenters should completed payment registration by 05 March and Early Bird registration fee is available up to 12 March. ADVANCE PROGRAMME
Hosted by the Government of South Africa through the Department of Science and Technology and Supported by the European Commission, IST-Africa 2010 will take place in Durban International Convention Centre, 19 - 21 May 2010.
Part of the IST-Africa Initiative, which is supported by the European Commission under the ICT Theme of Framework Programme 7 (FP7), IST-Africa 2010 is the fifth in an Annual Conference Series which brings together senior representatives from leading commercial, government & research organisations across Africa and from Europe, to bridge the Digital Divide by sharing knowledge, experience, lessons learnt and good practice and discussing policy related issues.
IST-Africa 2010 focuses on the Role of ICT for Africa's Development and specifically on Applied ICT research topics in the areas of eHealth, Technology Enhanced Learning, eInfrastructures, Open Source Software, ICT for Inclusion, ICT for Networked Enterprise and eGovernment and eDemocracy.
In the context of focusing on the Role of ICT for Africa's Development, the Opening Plenary on Wednesday 19 May features a high level dialogue on Implementation of the Africa-EU Partnership on Science, Information Society and Space. The Closing Plenary on Friday 21 May focuses on Initiatives Supporting Development of Regional S&T.

The conference programme is complemented by a demonstration and technology exploitation focused Exhibition and a Networking Reception which will take place on Wednesday 19 May 2010.
IST-Africa 2010 is Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE South Africa Computer Chapter and the Computer Society of South Africa. Major Sponsors include South Africa - Finland Knowledge Partnership on ICT project (SAFIPA) and NOKIA.
Call for Exhibitors - Dealine 26 February
IST-Africa 2010 features an Exhibition, which provides the opportunity to showcase research results and applications through technology demonstrations, whether funded commercially or at national, regional or European level.
The IST-Africa Consortium is sponsoring a limited amount of exhibition space for suitable demonstrations and posters from Universities at IST-Africa 2010 under a Competitive Call for Exhibitors. Potential exhibitors will be selected based on the quality and relevance of their submission to the conference themes, with preference given to those presenting innovative technology demonstrations.
Commercial enterprises who wish to exhibit will be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of space and shell scheme.
The online application form is available at www.ist-africa.org/Conference2010/default.asp?page=call4exhibitors and applications will be accepted up to 26 February. All applicants will receive feedback on 05 March, with payment registration due by 24 March.
Since the level of competition for available demonstration stands is likely to be high, applicants are advised to clearly state what they are planning to demonstrate and the value add for conference delegates. Demonstration stands are reserved for live technology demonstrations, but can feature early prototypes or a pre-commercial launch to a highly targeted, knowledgeable community. A small number of Posters may also be accepted.

Please remember that it is necessary for all presenters in the Programme to have completed online registration and payment by 05 March.

It is necessary for each delegate to register online individually. If you already have log in details for the IST-Africa portal, please use the same log in details for conference registration so that all transactions are saved to one profile. If a colleague is completing conference registration on your behalf, please ensure that they use your existing log in details.
Hotel Accommodation
Conference rates have been negotiated for delegates at Hilton (beside Durban ICC) and some other hotels along the Golden Mile.
The discounted hotel rates secured for conference delegates are available on the basis that they are booked via online registration on the IST-Africa 2010 conference portal and paid in full in advance. Delegates are strongly recommended to book their accommodation early as it will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

eSkills Summit 2010 Cape Town, South Africa, 26 - 28 July Call for Papers Deadline - 26 February

Please remember that no author or organisational details should be included in the paper submitted at this stage as all papers are double blind peer reviewed. Author/co-author and organisational details are submitted as part of the online submission form.
eSkills Summit 2010 - Call for Papers Deadline 26 February
Hosted by the Government of South Africa through the Department of Communications and the eSkills Institute, eSkills Summit South Africa 2010 will take place in Cape Town, 26 - 28 July 2010.
The e-Skills Summit South Africa provides a platform to engage government, business, education and civil society to:
- Raise awareness of current practices and development of e-Skills in South Africa, continental Africa and elsewhere
- Identify gaps in the institutional and programmatic structure concerning e-Skills development in South Africa and provide a means for all stakeholders across Africa to benefit from this process
- To outline global best practice in ways that can inform South Africa's commitment to improving e-Skills
- Develop a Platform for an initial Plan of Action for e-Skills enhancement in South Africa
The e-Skills Summit 2010 will act as a focal point to establish and deliver contributions providing South Africa with the necessary skills to become a leading member of the Information Society and to contribute to meeting the aims of the South African Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF), the Millennium Development Goals and the World Summit on the Information Society Plan of Action.
The e-Skills Summit will combine Visionary and Strategic Plenary Presentations focused on South African Policy for Skills Development and Sharing International Best Practices, Thematic Workshops, an eSkills Expo to demonstrate eSkills initiatives and High Level Networking Opportunities.

Important Deadlines: Online submission deadline for full paper or workshop proposal: 26 February 2010 Acceptance decision: 31 March 2010 Final Paper Submission: 30 April 2010
The Programme for eSkills Summit 2010 is based on an open Call for Papers and the conference language is English. Academic, government, civil society and business case studies are welcome.
Interested presenters are encouraged to prepare an 8 page paper (4,000 - 5,000) words following the eSkills Summit 2010 paper guidelines and paper template for submission online by 26 February. Please observe the Paper Guidelines available at www.eskills-summit.org/2010/default.asp?page=paperguidelines and use the Paper Template provided when preparing your paper.
All submissions will be double blind reviewed by the International Programme Committee and authors will receive feedback in mid March. Accepted authors will then be invited to submit a final paper taking account of feedback provided for inclusion in the conference proceedings by 30 April.
